A guided walk to honor individual and collective grief after a stressful election season.
Free, registration appreciated but not required.
1:30 PM
We’ll start just after 1:30 PM with introductions and general guidelines. Then we will walk in a group (or single file as the path allows) through the park.
These past few months leading up to the 2025 presidential election have been stressful. No matter how the election turns out, we are all going to feel some grief (and possibly—hopefully—relief) after November 5th. We will still be grieving the ongoing wars and genocides; the effects of climate chaos; the threats to women and transgender people; and all the changes and losses in our own lives. Let’s get together on November 9th at 1:30pm to be in community and in nature with our multitudes of grief.
What is a grief walk? We walk among the flora of a park talking about and feeling grief, while allowing ourselves to draw comfort from the presence of others who are also grieving. During the walk we stop a few times for poetry, observation, movement, story sharing, and quiet contemplation. The more we acknowledge that grief is a normal part of living, the better we will each be able to carry our own sorrows and support others in their grief.
All are welcome, regardless of how you feel about the results of the election. Be aware that I acknowledge and abhor the genocide in Gaza and the war in Ukraine, support trans rights and a person’s right to make decisions about their own body, and I fear for our planet because of the climate crisis, and I believe immigrants are what makes a country successful. I strive to be an anti-racist and anti-oppressive ally. We will not debate politics, but there will be space to share whatever grief or the release of held grief you have because of this year’s election. No hate or bullying will be tolerated.
Bring water and wear comfortable shoes. We will walk regardless of the weather.
